Three weeks ago, Google’s new position 6 penalty was introduced . At this time, it was unclear why Google assigned this penalty to some websites.

6 point penalty

The theories were that Google considered usage data when calculating the rankings and that Google had a better understanding of word and phrase relationships.

Was this just a bug in Google’s algorithm?

In a discussion about this problem, Google’s Matt Cutt’s recently wrote the following:

We decided today to make a new website and see how long it takes to get a website in the Google index. We decided to be a Roofer in Bangor. We have built the site in CSS, from scratch and have set ourselves 48 hours to get the site live. I hear you cry “WHAT 48 hours?”, yes we feel that if a site is built correctly and written with good content and also using a few of our own non disclosure techniques, a website can get to the first page of Google very, very quickly.

Microsoft Corp. today announced that it has made a proposal to the Yahoo! Inc. Board of Directors to acquire all the outstanding shares of Yahoo! common stock for per share consideration of $31 representing a total equity value of approximately $44.6 billion.

WOW, is this going to happen, give us your thoughts…

Will they ever overcome the power of the the “big G” (Google)?

Is it a worth while purchase?

As you may not have noticed Google is in the process of updating the toolbar Google PageRank. Im a little supprised at the timing as the last one was only in November. Saying that, it really was to lower the Google PageRank on sites that were selling links.

Statcounter went down considerably but has now regained its PageRank of 9 as they have put a no follow on all the paid links. I would not take much into the visual ranking as here at Customerstreet we have not noticed any extra traffic when the ranking of our pages has increased.
