Do you ever look into how people are finding pages on your website?

Here are some ways they can find your site:

  • Inbound Links
  • PPC
  • Banner Adverts
  • SERP’s

If you do not know, its time to start using Google Analytics. Google offer a free service to track traffic on your website and how they found you wand what search term they used to find the specific page on your website.

This is a crucial part of SEO, understanding the reasons a page is or isnt working in the way you expected. Google analytics is a free tool and is very easy to setup. All you need to do is signup first (very quick). When you signup you will be told to add a small peice of code into the bottom of each page you want to track.

<script type=”text/javascript”>

var gaJsHost = ((”https:” == document.location.protocol) ? “https://ssl.” : “http://www.”);

document.write(”\<script src=’” + gaJsHost + “google-analytics.com/ga.js’ type=’text/javascript’>\<\/script>” );

</script>

<script type=”text/javascript”>

var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker(”UA-*******-**”);

pageTracker._initData();

pageTracker._trackPageview();

</script>

All, you then need to do is validate the site and off you go.
